Learn how to lose weight effectively and easily by eating what your body needs.
This is a free course.
I am going to be covering this with you briefly each day. You can join at the URL above if it interests you.
1 Developing a healthy, positive image of yourself is the first critical factor in fitness success. A strong sense of self-worth is the basis for making rational and affirming decisions about and for your health. editor’s note~ It is no coincidence that my first goal of the New Year is to work on my self-esteem and self-worth. What is yours relating to health and weight speaking from a mental edge?
2. Food for the Soul
The perfect menu for those days when you’re so overworked you feel you’ve got to get a life, these choices are all about pampering you, kicking back, and relaxing. Today’s carbohydrate-rich evening meal and snack will help induce a drowsy, calming end to your day. (Note: Each pull-down list below allows you to make a personalized menu choice.) editors note~~ I am a diehard and will not follow a menu plan. This could be my downfall. Are you willing to follow a strict meal plan chosen by others?
Say YES™ to food |
3 Tips for Success These tips will help you successfully implement your plan of action. Bookmark this page, or print it out and stick it on your fridge. editors note~~ There are 7 no nonsense tips for the journey. You can see them here. http://www.thirdage.com/health/nutrition/sayyes/tips.html
I was only willing to do 3 out of the 7. Journalizing, drinking water, and measuring portions. If I keep on refusing sound advice and plans how do I expect to see results? What are you willing to add to your plans this year?

I took a look at this site….it looks quite good.
#4 I am going to track my measurments, I think that will help when I hit those plateaus…
=====
#3…..What I am willing to do……
#1….I will …eat breakfast (or I’m starvedand eat anything by my 11 am lunch time)
#4……….Measure portions…[I’m getting better at this]
#3……….keep a food diary…[this really does help…even when I post it after I have made the choices and eaten–as compared to Editor who appears to have it figured out before the day begins]
#5……Water!!!! [going to get better at this..]
#6……Exercise….[joining the Morning Challenge]
That’s 5 of the 7…
#2….follow preplanned menues????……….
I do sometimes like a preplanned menu. What often happens tho’, is it is food I might eat, but not dh…and what do I do with the rest of the 1 pound box of strawberries when the week only calls for 1/2 cup…or the leftovers because the receipe makes more than 1 serving…or the foods are out of season and cost an arm and a leg…so while I might use the preplanned as a starting point…I do sometimes recreate my own, to meet my needs and the shopping specials in our area….
#1…self-esteem…this one is tougher, but I need to work on it and not react with food when a comment is made about how I should have ….or shouldn’t have… certain types of food. I need to find ways to see me as God sees me…
Lord, you have given us all kinds of sound advice to get healthy, help us to have the courage to listen to it…and most of all to act on the information. I am overweight, all that information in my head does no good if I don’t put it into action. Thank you for your courage and strength to follow the good and healthful information you bring to me.

Angelic! You did excellent and now I have a point of contact to remind you of. Thanks for partnering up with me on this. Starting Jan. 1 I will add the excerise challenge but it will be a meager 5 minutes a day until the second wind kicks in. I looked for the tape measurer this morning. Dick cleaned my drawer. I haven’t found out yet where he has misplaced/delegated it to, but I will make an effort to find/buy one. I know today’s blog took time, and I appreciate you pursuing it. Yes, Lord, I add my amen.

1. Self esteem - I’m working on this one. My tendency is to lock myself in my house, embarassed about my weight. I have to remind myself that a)God wants me out there helping others b)while God doesn’t like my sin of overeating, He does love me from the inside out c) I am worthy of everything a skinny person is worthy of.
2. Planned menu - This is difficult at dinner or when my husband is home. He likes to be spontaneous and trying to follow a menu in the past has failed. I think it may be time to try again. It would certainly be better for my grocery budget. It would help me make sure I get in all my fruits and veggies, too.
3. What I’m willing to do - I will commit to
#1 breakfast
#3 measuring portions
#4 food diary
#5 drinking my water
#6 exercise - morning challenge
I will attempt #2 and #7, but feel it’s more important to eat when hungry and stop when full. This has been working very well for me.
4. I will take my measurements. I have found this very helpful in the past when plateaus come around. Plus, I have a problem with losing weight and not feeling as though I have…not seeing it in the mirror. Taking measurements is positive proof.
Thanks for giving us some specific goals to work on together!

Toni, this is terrific that you followed through also on this. I see you are also committing to specific actions and that spells success. I found my tape measurer and will take my measurements tomorrow. That will be an eye opener for me because I haven’t taken them since I was at goal weight many moons ago. This course, and anything else we learn together will be valuable. Thanks for being here.

Ok…took my measurements. Not a pretty picture. Will we be remeasuring monthly do you think?
I got my husband to agree to the menu plan. In the past that meant following for a week or two tops, but I’m using positive thinking!
December 27th, 2005 at 3:28 pm
I don’t know yet how often, but monthly sounds reasonable.
Toni, I am so excited for you and hubby. That is so uplifting. WooHoo!

MENU PLAN: I dont think I would like to follow a planned menu. Its nice to have the freedom in choices.
SELF ESTEEM: Alot of times I’m my own worst enemy. Iam kinda hard on myself sometimes. My self worth needs improvement I thnk angelic nailed it when she said to see myself the way God sees me. To know and walk in the freedom Jesus provided for me.
Regarding the Tips for Success:
I have looked over the list, I’m willing to commit to them. I have never kept a food journal. But there is a first time for everything:)
Like angelic said Editor thank you for sharing this with us, its nice to do this together. It helps to hear others perspectives, because sometimes we are emotionally blind to own situations. Sometimes what others have to say can nail it for us. I’m going to print off the tips and post them on my fridge.God Bless ladies..have a good night.

Tracking measurements!!!EEEEK!LOL..I will join in on measurments too. My MIL did that while she was losing and I did her measurements for her and some weeks there wasnt any change on the scale ..but a difference in the measurements, which was very encouraging for her.

I am thrilled you are in on this too Jil. I think we will all be quite well prepared to face the New Year-New Me challenge. The Fearless Foursome will be taking home graphic awards each week. I found a journal was very helful for me. Not just calories but moods when I ate explaining my oftimes poor performance. Here we go!
