McDonald’s Says Fries Have More Trans Fats
NewsAdvance.org reports that McDonald’s french fries just got fatter — by nutritional measurement. The world’s largest restaurant chain said Wednesday its fries contain a third more trans fats than it previously knew, citing results of a new testing method it began using in December 2005. That means the level of potentially artery-clogging trans fat in a portion of large fries is eight grams, up from six, with total fat increasing to 30 grams from 25.
Often used by restaurants and in packaged foods, trans fats are thought to cause cholesterol problems and increase the risk of heart disease. The dietary guidelines for Americans that were issued by a government panel last year said people should consume as little trans fat as possible.
The disclosure comes as McDonald’s Corp. starts rolling out packaging for its menu items that contain facts about their nutritional content - a move made voluntarily but with the fast-food industry under pressure from consumer groups and the government to provide more information…

Knew there was a reason why I haven’t stopped at McD’s this past year. Well, I did stop a couple of times (only ‘fast food’ place in our area) but only bought a chicken and fish sandwich and their Christmas Peppermint Shake. I ate the Chicken sandwich and Bruce ate the fish one. Usually stop at Wendy’s for their Baked Potatoe and Chilie when we are where there is one. If I go to a town that doesn’t have Wendy’s, I carry a Slim Fast type bar and nibble on it so I don’t have to eat high calorie, artery clogging foods. Wonder how fast McD’s will change their cooking of the fries or will the fries orders go down. Will be interesting to watch, with how ‘health concious’ we Americans are suppose to be lately.

I loved what you said, Angelic: “How ‘health conscious’ we Americans are suppose to be lately.”
McD’s has tried to add healthier choices through the year to meet public demand and face criticism, but it will never be a vegetarian restaurant. I have not done one single fast food since eDiet days. For Christmas by dd sent me a video, “Super Size It.” What a shocker, and I am so glad it didn’t take this video to wake me up.
