8. Heavenly Father, I am in Your hands. I feel safe and secure as I turn to You throughout the day. You alone hold me up and sustain me when I am tempted to overeat or to binge. By Your power I am rescued. By Your strength I am able to resist the wiles of the devil. Today as my sword I will quote out loud 1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.” May I feed on Your Word today as Jesus did in the wilderness and may I fight the good fight of faith, in His name. Amen
Day 9 Scripture: 2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
Application: It is impossible to be perfectly strong and resolved every single day when we are facing 1,200 to 1,500 calories per day for months on end? Yes, there are days when we fall short of our goals, but we have a victorious Savior to call out to. When we recognize our weaknesses in our own flesh, we can call out to Him for strength. And even if we fail to call out in time, we have Him to turn to, for He is a God of second chances. Today’s failures give Him a chance to show Himself strong and merciful, ready to rush to your side and strengthen your resolve and will. Don’t give up! Get up instead, to the throne room of God and commit again your ways to Him so that Christ’s power may once again rest upon you.
Prayer: Father, how easy it is for me to think that I can do it all in my strength. Just when I think I have a handle on dieting, a temptation comes my way to destroy the hard work that I have done. I succumb to it, and then am filled with shame. But You have taught me to turn to You and admit my weakness so that Your power may rest upon me again. Lord, I need Your power upon me, for sometimes I feel powerless over the temptations of self-indulgence. Strengthen me, for I am weak, in Jesus’ name. Amen
My Commitment Today:
